Contemporary artist Ghazaleh Baniahmad was born in 1983 in Tehran, Iran. She finished her bachelor in Graphic Design and moved to Canada in 2011. New Canadian environment and second bachelor in Fine arts at OCAD U helps her to find her own way to connect her origin Iranian style with contemporary art through different mediums. Her main focus is on her personal life experiences that can be mutual in many people's lives. That is a key to have a universal artistic dialogue.

I like to connect my personal life experience, my Iranian historical and cultural identity, with my understanding of Canadian culture. My work reflects my experience with immigration and my mother’s illness, but at the same time I like it to create a connection between my art and my viewer, whom might have a similar type of story, the sim
I like to connect my personal life experience, my Iranian historical and cultural identity, with my understanding of Canadian culture. My work reflects my experience with immigration and my mother’s illness, but at the same time I like it to create a connection between my art and my viewer, whom might have a similar type of story, the simple routine daily stories like watching TV together! Images of my childhood era, plays a significant role in my work. I believe these images shares similar feelings around the world. I use photography and found images, primarily in black and white (a metaphor for memory). I connect my paintings with photography by using a similar black and white palette in order to eliminate boundaries between them. This project tries to illustrate how similar we, humans, are yet how significant each story can be to each of us.
